someone's really gotta look into whoever's coming up with those assignments
[Sans waits around for Sayori to show up. He throws some snacks on the coffee table by the couch, and after some consideration, grabs some drinks, too. Once Sayori actually knocks on the door, Sans ambles very deliberately over to answer it. He's trying to act normal, here.]
[Sayori does her very best to manage a smile. But given how worried she is, her very best is not at its best, and even though her mouth makes the shape, it doesn't really look like a smile, and she rolls her shoulders in a shrug.] Oh, y'know.
Yup. [The living room area is cleaner than Sayori might expect unless she's aware that Maya stops by semi-regularly to clean. There's a computer sitting off in a corner on a table--Sans got it from Vista Virs, but it probably looks kind of out of place. The couch looks pretty well-loved by now, considering Sans slept on it all the time when Honoka was his roommate and in general enjoys a good couch nap.
For now, he just sits on it.] Got chips too. And soda. [Does Sans even eat anything healthy?]
[Even if she's not aware that Maya specifically does this, she similarly has friends helping to keep her life in order so she kinda figures...
Sayori follows him to the couch and flops down on it, eyeing the snacks. Despite the other options, unsurprisingly, she goes for a cookie first.] You always have good taste in snacks.
Which is kinda funny since you don't have a tongue. [She doesn't laugh like it's funny, but listen, she's trying...]
Y'know, it's not like I've ever checked. [After all, his jaw is permanently closed. He seriously considers sticking his hand in his eye socket, but he's not sure if that would cross the line from funny to creepy. Maybe later, when things aren't quite so emotionally fraught.
Sans reaches to grab a soda. The motion shifts his hoodie, making his missing right hand more obvious. His arm ends where the wrist should be. It doesn't look painful or anything, though.]
She tries not to stare the way she did after he got injured in Lyrabar, but it's harder knowing it's not going to grow back this time. That's the only thing he mentioned missing, so that must be the price of his revival.
Her eyes linger at the end of the bone, and she holds her forgotten cookie halfway to her mouth.] ...are you...gonna be okay?
It's just a hand. [That's not the extent of what she's talking about, and he knows it, but that's where he wants to start.] Better that it's somethin' on my body.
[Better his hand than his memories. Even the bad ones.]
[He does have a point, though as someone whose primary contributions to the Bureau are writing and archery she has a hard time thinking of it as "just a hand." But it does remind her:] Um— the memory you lost in Wonderland. You got it back, right?
Yeah. [He reaches for it reflexively, as if it might have gone somewhere in between getting it back and now. He doesn't like having his head messed with, not at all.] Back home I've got this friend--we used to tell knock knock jokes back and forth through this big door. Didn't know her name for the longest time, not 'til she came looking for the kid.
[Sayori has heard references to "the kid" before, and would know their name is Frisk. Though Sans has never mentioned them more than in passing, it's clear Sans has some fondness for them.]
[Her shoulders slump slightly, releasing a bit of the tension she didn't realize she was holding.] Okay. Good. [She spares him having to further acknowledge her obvious worry by explaining. Given what she saw of his memories in Event Square and how she reacted to "forgetting" about someone important to her, it's pretty self-evident, anyway.
She finally takes a bite of that cookie.] She sounds nice. All of your friends sound really nice.
I'll try not to say anything too weird. [Really, he means he won't say anything related to their existential situation. He'll be weird in other ways, of course.]
Seems like everybody from your world showed up all at once, huh?
[Monika, too. He thinks Sayori probably still counts her as a friend, but he also thinks Sayori isn't including her in "you should meet them".]
[She nods, and then there's a tick of hesitation where she's weighing whether to be optimistic or to be honest.] I've been hoping they would, but— but after Wonderland I was kinda thinking they wouldn't.
[She wasn't convinced that they wouldn't. But there was a heavy doubt that wasn't present before. Acknowledging its existence puts a guilty pit in her stomach, but considering she's here regarding Sans's personal traumas it only seems fair to be honest.]
[Sans can't blame her--hoping people will show up but expecting them not to has been his entire approach to other people from his own world since he's shown up.] Even if it's complicated, you're glad to see 'em, yeah?
[Another nod. It's most complicated with Monika, of course, but...even still, Monika deserves the second chance that the Bureau offers too.
There's a hint of a smile at the corner of her mouth as she regards the cookie. Remembers when Sans offered her one after chasing off the jellyfish.] Thanks.

I've got snacks. Everything's better with food, right?

Yeah, you have to. I'll introduce you to my friends too. They're here now but it's—
[She stares contemplatively at the chocolate chips inside of the cookie.] Well, it's kind of weird.
[Both for reasons that Sans knows or can guess already, and reasons he's unaware of.] But you should meet them anyway, they're nice.

I won't tell 'em anything you're not ready for.
