[She does laugh now, but it's humorless.] I couldn't remember why or how I knew, or anything else about my world, so— that's all I had.
[She kicks one of her feet idly, scuffing her heel against the ground.] ...I still think they deserve to know the truth, but... I— I dunno.
[Thinking about the revelation that awaits all the Baislans because of something she did, of essentially having to be the messenger of such a horrible paradigm shift in their perception of their reality, it feels sick in a very familiar way. She didn't want to have to do to anyone else what she did to Yuri and Natsuki.
She finishes lamely:] It feels bad. I don't know if I'll be much help.
There's tons of people who'd be worse at it than you. [Sans is sure he'd be terrible at it. He can't imagine even trying to do something to begin with, he just knows it's the kind of thing Sayori would want to do. Tracing back those feelings, he gets lost in the memory fog again. Things he can't remember.] But it ain't like you have to do everything all at once. ...Or at all, but you're not gonna just walk away, huh?
[Wonderland... It's weird--Sans remembers almost all of that now. It was certainly memorable. But he doesn't remember--what he saw. The memories that got him so worked up. And while maybe right now wouldn't be the best time to take the worst trip down memory lane, he still wants those memories back. Those are his.]
Yeah, I guess I did, huh? [He winks at her.] See, I was right. [This is the kind of person Sayori is.] If it were me, I'd wait for someone else to deal with it.
[The corner of her mouth moves into a shape sort of like a smile as he winks, but it's not quite there. A doubtful noise leaves her in response. To both of his claims, about her character and his too, but that's not entirely clear.
She only halfway elaborates.] I dunno. You say that, but you've helped me a lot. Even when you didn't remember who I was.
[Sans supposes he can't exactly say she's wrong. He did help her with her journals. He doesn't know if he'd say he's helped her a lot, overall, but he's pretty sure Sayori would insist if he argued.] Maybe I've gotten a little better about that kind of stuff.
[Something clicks then. The dissertation on technomancy she'd found at the Roswell Center, the one she'd put her name in. Sans's knowledge of how to help with KV's request.]
You wrote that big book about technomancy, didn't you?
[Sans scratches at the back of his skull.] I don't know if I'd call it a book... [That's semantics, though.] Figured you might be able to use it for somethin'. [For Yuri, specifically.] Don't go tellin' everyone I did that, though, or they're really gonna get weird ideas about me.
